Want to shape the future of road safety across an entire national network?

As a Senior Highway Safety Engineer, you will play a leading role in delivering the Isle of Man Road Safety Strategy, helping reduce death and serious injury through evidence-led interventions, targeted schemes and practical solutions that improve safety for all road users.

Working within the Network Planning team, you will contribute to road safety, traffic management and transport planning across the Island, leading collision analysis, route assessments, safety investigations and casualty reduction initiatives. Using data, site evidence, professional judgement and stakeholder feedback, you will identify risks, deliver proportionate solutions and help implement the Road Safety Strategy Action Plan in partnership with colleagues across Government, the Constabulary, emergency services, contractors and local communities. You'll also play a key role in embedding a Safe System approach across highway design, asset management and network planning, helping create a safer, more resilient and better-connected transport network for the Isle of Man.

Requirements

      A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering, transport, planning or related discipline.

      Chartered or Incorporated Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., CEng/IEng/MIHE/MCIHT/CMILT or equivalent) or demonstrable equivalent professional standing appropriate to a principal authority role.

      Evidence of relevant continuing professional development in highway safety, Safe System delivery, speed management and/or road safety engineering.

      Significant post-qualification experience in highway safety engineering and casualty reduction.

      Demonstrable experience operating as a principal professional adviser / senior authority in road safety, including setting technical positions and advising senior decision-makers.

      Proven ability to lead complex projects and programmes to time, quality and delegated budget, including effective risk and performance management.

      Demonstrated success in developing, owning or materially shaping strategy, policy, standards or technical guidance in road safety and Safe System implementation.

      Strong evidence-led capability to diagnose safety issues using collision analysis, network risk profiling, site investigation and professional judgement, and to appraise options and recommend priorities.

      Expert knowledge of road safety Expert knowledge of highway safety engineering and Safe System intervention development relevant to the Island context.

      Experience commissioning and managing consultants and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective outputs.

      Ability to prepare and present elected-member grade reports, briefing notes, options papers, business cases and consultation recommendations.

Sound understanding of relevant legislative, policy and standards frameworks and the ability to ensure compliant service delivery.
