DescriptionDue to increased demand following a number of successful project wins, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Highways Engineer to play a key part in a growing team of 130+ Civil & Structural Engineers and Designers.
Our Highways & Transportation team covers a range of projects from assurance, Concept Studies through to Detailed Design, plus support during ECI and construction stages, providing a wide variety of interesting work. Industries can range across Roads, Water, Transportation, Energy, Nuclear and Defence.
Working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering infrastructure projects, you will be assisting in the delivery of civil and structural (highways) advice, analysis, calculations, reports and specifications.
This includes alignment, drainage, sign and road marking design etc.
You will communicate designs effectively to the BIM teams, other disciplines, construction personnel and stakeholders.
Role Location: Manchester or London Office (Predominately home based but must be flexible and willing to travel as per business needs) - Attendance occasionally required for site visits, design reviews and client meetings, often within the North, but projects can be nationwide.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
As a client facing Engineer, your responsibilities could involve:
- Supporting the technical delivery of highways discipline engineering for projects and/or proposals; including design engineering, preparation, and some reviewing of works documentation/ gap analysis.
- Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme
- Support effective health and safety, and CDM, practices/requirements within the team
- Work to applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation and company/client standards and procedures are complied with
- Implement company, and where applicable client/ project, policies and procedures
- Communicate effectively with other disciplines to ensure that interfaces are clearly defined and correctly designed
- Communicate appropriately with other departments, project personnel, vendors and clients
More specific tasks could include:
Assisting with RRRAP assessments
Assisting with Traffic Management design and approvals
Assisting with sign and roadmaking design
Assisting with design of new carriageway/footways, assessment of existing infrastructure, checking and approving C&S documentation from others
Supporting colleagues in identifying change, progress reporting, tracking of issues, risks and resolutions
Road Safety Engineering support (inc road safety audit assistance)
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
Practical experience in UK highways & infrastructure at all stages of the project lifecycle.
Good proficiency of 3D Civils software
Good knowledge of UK design working practices and installation requirements of the discipline across a range of industries.
Good knowledge of UK legislation and standards
Awareness of risk identification, quantification, management and of HSE requirements
Proven experience with multi clients/disciplines
Eligibility for UK Security Clearance
Desirable
Experience with new and historic highways, optioneering assessments
Traffic Management design experience
Qualifications
Essential
Degree in Civil Engineering, or similar
Membership of Professional Industry Body
Full driving licence
Desirable
Actively working towards iEng or CEng with ICE, CIHT or similar
CDM experience
Security Clearance, or capability
National Highways Passport
CSCS card
